ABOUT THE AREA


The village of Oroklini sits inland between the town of Larnaca and the holiday resort of Ayia Napa. Parts of the village have been restored to their original traditional style and with dining out being at the heart of village social life you can enjoy some of these fine rustic restaurants.

Within a few minutes’ drive of the village is the sandy bay of Yannathes beach, which is the main beach for the Oroklini area. Along with Yannathes Beach, five other beaches in the Larnaca district are proud recipients of the blue flag award. Of interest to scuba divers is the Zenobia dive site, where a capsized ferry of 172 metres sank off the Larnaca coastline in 1980 and now rests on her port side in approximately 40 metres of water. This site has been named as one of the top ten wreck diving sites in the world.

Larnaca, the oldest town in Cyprus, is approximately 15 kilometres away, and the airport just to the south of the town is approximately 20 kilometres away. The town has a unique atmosphere and is a wonderful place to explore on foot as you'll constantly make new discoveries, a coffee shop, a small church etc or take a stroll along the palm-lined promenade on the picturesque seafront and linger in one of the stylish pavement cafes. Cyprus has many churches, temples and monuments belonging to both Christianity and Islam as the island is split between Greek and Turkish communities. Larnaca is no exception to this having both the magnificent Orthodox Church of Ayios Lazaros built in the town over the tomb of St Lazarus and on the banks of the salt lakes, the Hala Sultan Tekke one of the Holiest Shrines of Islam built over the tomb of Umm Haram said to be the maternal aunt of the prophet Mohammad.

Ayia Napa approximately 35 kilometres away was once a small fishing village which has been more recently promoted as a clubber’s paradise with a varied and vibrant nightlife concentrated in the towns central square. Families are rediscovering the delights of the resort by steering away from the square and spending days on the beautiful blue flag beaches and mellow evenings strolling the pedestrianised harbour area and dining at one its selection of cafes and restaurants. Ayia Napa boasts the biggest themed waterpark in Europe with exhilarating rides providing fun and entertainment for all age groups.

Protaras its quieter neighbour located within 50km offers a wide range of friendly restaurants, cosy tavernas, bars and shopping opportunities to suit the whole family. The famous Fig Tree Bay with its clear turquoise sea and fine golden sand are understandably popular with both visitors and locals alike.

Outdoor activities in Oroklini and the surrounding towns and villages include water-sports, go-karting, horse riding, bowling, a Cineplex and Camel Park (located in Mazotos).
